What's a cookie?
A cookie is a very small amount of text placed on your computer's hard drive. This text itself does nothing, but, when you click from one page to another, our web server can tell who you are because of it. This saves time and eliminates the chance that your shopping basket might get confused with someone else's. It also helps you by keeping your shopping basket contents on our server for several hours after you fill it, just in case your Internet connection fails.
Is using a cookie going to give you personal information about me?
No. Accepting a cookie does not give anyone access to your computer or to any personal information. It is simply a small file in which we keep information that identifies you as a unique shopper.

What is Java/Javascript and what does it do?
Java simplifies computing, both for users, and for the companies building and using computers and software. Java technology solves pressing business problems. Sears uses Java technology to bring to the Internet, the power of distribution and order fulfillment systems. We use Java on our website to allow Internet orders to be processed, and fulfilled as quickly and easily as they would be over the phone. Java is a programming language that allows computers of different types to communicate with one another easily. The Javascript, servlet or applet runs on our web server to get the information from your shopping basket to our Canada wide ordering system. Your web browser needs to be configured to allow these scripts to run.
What happens if I do not have cookies or Java/Javascript enabled on my browser?
You will not be able to use our shopping service if you cannot accept Java/Javascript and a cookie. You might think our service is working, but our web server will not be able to locate your shopping basket on successive clicks.
Exactly what information are you maintaining in the cookie?
We use cookies for two reasons: In our shopping basket we create and retain a unique identifier for your browser, and in throughout sears.ca we may contract with third parties who may use cookies and collect information on our behalf. These third parties are prohibited by our contract with them from sharing that information with anyone other than us or our selected third party service providers/business partners.
